She Knows How To Win A Highway

By Tony Megahey

A rare and unlucky Flemington foray by Goulburn’s Danny Williams provides the strongest possible push for promising She Knows back to a TAB $60,000 Class 3 Hawkesbury Highway Handicap (1100m) on Saturday.

Last month the striking black Denman filly finished less than three lengths behind Godolphin’s Demerara who progressed to Group and Listed class, compiling five wins from eight starts.

“We’d have been in the finish at Flemington with any luck at all,” Williams said.

“She was caught on the wrong section of the track from the inside gate and her run was super.

“The winner and placegetters were wide on the track, she closed off strong.

“Demerara was in that blanket finish in the Group 3 at Randwick won by Houtzen so the form around us is strong.

“While she does represent the class in the race, this filly is not at her peak and will improve on whatever she does on Saturday.

“It’s six weeks between runs; we’ve kept her fresh as there wasn’t much suitable for her.”

She Knows has earned the 59kg for Blake Shinn who has to overcome the extreme outside draw in a field of nine on the tight and turning circuit. However She Knows raced on pace and closed off with short course wins and placings last preparation at Royal Randwick and Rosehill Gardens.

She Knows will likely start favourite ahead of Rod Northam’s recent Scone winner Don’t Doubt Her. Northam also has a particularly strong record in the Highway series.

The annual Hawkesbury stand- alone Saturday meeting featuring the Group 3 Godolphin Crown event and historic Livamol Hawkesbury Gold Cup will again attract a booming crowd to the immensely popular provincial track.
