Although a Country Restricted Race, the 1400m BM58 at Goulburn on the 7th of July 2023 set the stage for one of DWR’s proudest achievements to date.
An extraordinary victory marked the afternoon as our cherished (then) 8-year-old grey gelding, MY BLUE JEANS, triumphed for the 9th time at start 97—his first win in nearly two years.
The result carried a profound significance for our stable, standing as a testament to MY BLUE JEANS’ toughness and honesty and also the practices we undertake to give every horse the opportunity and longevity to make it as a racetrack success.
Despite encountering the challenges any racehorse will have over the course of their careers, MBJ has proven time and again that his competitive spirit burns bright. This is quantified in his earnings of over $336,000 on the country circuit, but really goes much further than that.
In recent races, he had been racing as competitively as ever, with victory only eluding him due to circumstances and the fickleness of luck. That day, however, was a different story.
Guided by jockey Jay Ford, MBJ navigated from a challenging wide barrier, securing an advantageous position up along the fence. Then, a strategic move to the outside allowed him to surge forward, finding a clear path to the finish line—and a most definitely deserved win.
At the time of writing the ‘old grey marvel’ has sailed on and reached the incredible milestone of 100 race starts. He is part of the furniture in our stable at Goulburn and will be long after he has had his last charge at a winning post.
