With circumstances at last working in his favour, Atmospheric Rock emerged a 1200m Highway winner at Royal Randwick and showcased his ability to take his racing further.

The 4-year-old Your Song gelding, guided by a lovely ride from jockey Jason Collett, clinched his first Highway win after eight previous attempts, much to the delight of his owners and connections who remained faithful this day would finally come after enduring luckless runs and unlucky barrier draws.

“He’s been an unlucky horse, he has the will to win but his racing style makes it difficult.”

Despite this only being the gelding’s second race win, Danny is eyeing his next hurdle: the $150,000 Newhaven Park South East Country Championships Qualifier at Moruya on March 3.

Although there are concerns over a potential ratings shortfall to make the final field for the qualifier, the stable remains optimistic about the horse’s chances after seeing him trade his wares so pleasingly in properly suiting conditions.

He is a horse who takes time to build into stride which has to date left him with large distances to make up in the finish and indeed before today he had registered three placings and two fast finishing fourths on his Highway tally doing just that.

There is no doubting the gelding’s endevour in the final furlongs and another race in the interim may be programmed to help boost his rating sufficiently to go after the lucrative Country Championships purses.

Congratulations to all his patient owners on landing a great day out at Royal Randwick and here’s to the next!
